What is California Ocean Day?

Ocean Day is a chance to bring our love of the ocean to the state’s Capitol in Sacramento. If you sign up for this 19th annual lobby day, you’ll join part of a team that will meet with state leaders at the Capitol on May 7 to lobby in support of important legislation that will protect our coast and ocean. This is a chance to dip your toes into the world of ocean policy; as well as to hear from fellow activists, artists and decisionmakers from across the state who are passionate about our stretch of the Pacific Ocean.

Learn

Come learn about the bills that leading ocean and coastal defenders in California are pushing this year. Hear from decisionmakers, non-profit representatives, legislative staff and artists about ocean issues affecting their community.

Lobby

All participants will attend 2-4 meetings with legislative staff, senators, assemblymembers and/or state agency representatives as part of a lobby team on May 7. Teams will be organized virtually the week before Ocean Day.

Engage

Meet activists from around the state who love the ocean just as much as you do. Ocean Day is great for people interested in a career in ocean policy and/or passionate about affecting change along their slice of the coast.

Who can attend California Ocean Day?

Everyone. If you love the ocean, you’re invited. If you make art inspired by the sea, are interested in policy to protect the ocean, or want your state representatives know that you care about what happens to the coastline; then this day is for you. Food is provided for all registered participants throughout the day. Attendees need to determine their own travel and accommodation. Check out the ‘Agenda’ tab for more.
